As one of the fastest growing communities in the Twin Cities area, opportunities abound for commercial development to provide goods and services to Lakeville's growing population. Commercial development is located in Historic Downtown Lakeville, Heritage Commons, Crossroads of Lakeville, Lakeville Crossing, I-35/County Road 50, 185th St./County Road 60, and throughout the community.

As the Southern Gateway to the Twin Cities, Lakeville provides businesses with easy access to Twin Cities amenities as well as ideal access to southern Minnesota and other points south, including Rochester, LaCrosse, Des Moines and Chicago.

The Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport is 20 minutes away from Lakeville's Airlake Airport, a Metropolitan Airports Commission reliever airport serving the community's corporate and private aviation needs. Additionally, Progressive Rail, Inc. offers short-line rail service to Airlake Industrial Park.

Airlake Industrial Park is one of the largest industrial parks in the state, with over 150 manufacturing and industrial businesses representing over 4,000 jobs. Additional sites of one acre up to 100 acres are available for industrial development.

The goal of this project is to facilitate an effort to create a long-term plan to promote Downtown economic viability while retaining its unique and historical characteristics. Visit the Downtown Planning Project page on this website for more information.

The Downtown Lakeville Business Association is committed to the improvement and preservation of the historic downtown area. The business community is actively involved in preserving historic buildings and blending new construction with historic character. The Downtown Lakeville Business Association has adopted design guidelines to reflect and enhance the historical character of the original downtown district.
