The Parks & Recreation Department maintains a total of 62 public properties consisting of neighborhood and community parks, athletic fields, playgrounds, greenways, trails, tennis courts, skating rinks, picnic areas, conservation areas, nature areas, several public fishing areas, three swimming beaches, and the City's Central Maintenance Facility, Senior Center, and the Lakeville Area Arts Center.
There are more than 100 miles of pedestrian and bike trails. Also available are cross-country ski trails, snowmobile trails, nature trails, and equestrian trails. In total there are more than 1,400 acres of public parks and open space.
The Parks, Recreation, and Natural Resources Committee is the citizen advisory group that makes recommendations to the City Council regarding parks and trails, recreation, and natural resource planning and management.
