Join the team of 14,000! Take action. Save a life. The focus of Lakeville heart restart is to promote the actions that can increase the survival rate of sudden cardiac arrest victims. These actions are: Call 9-1-1, start CPR, and administer defibrillation. Our goal is to train 14,000 residents in No Fear CPR and encourage all businesses to have automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in their facilities. What is sudden cardiac arrest? Sudden cardiac arrest occurs when the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating. It happens because the electrical signals that regulate the pumping action of the heart go haywire. Unable to pump blood to the organs and brain, the heart stops beating. If CPR is not given and the heart is not shocked back into regular rhythm with an AED, the body and the brain are deprived of oxygen and death results. But, if action is taken, victims can survive. What can you do? - Learn No Fear CPR. It only takes 30 minutes. This method is new and easy to learn. It gives everyone the knowledge and ability to save a life. To schedule classes at your place of business or to learn when community classes are available, call (952) 953-2650.
- Have an AED. The costs have gone down significantly over the years, making AEDs an affordable life-saving piece of equipment. To learn more about AEDs, call (952) 953-2650.
- Make a plan. The Minnesota State High School League, through a grant from Medtronic, has developed an emergency plan workbook and CD that can help you put your plan together. To request a workbook, call (952) 985-4407.
